Express Entry Programs

Canadian PR Pathways

Three main programs under Canada's Express Entry system for skilled workers seeking permanent residency.

Canadian Experience Class

CEC Program

The Canadian Experience Class is specifically designed for individuals who are already living and working in Canada on a temporary basis — including international graduates with a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP). Because applicants already have Canadian work experience, the CEC has no minimum education requirement and does not require proof of settlement funds, making it one of the most accessible PR pathways. CEC candidates often receive high CRS scores due to Canadian experience bonus points and skill transferability factors.

  • Minimum 1 year of skilled Canadian work experience within the last 3 years
  • CLB 7 for NOC TEER 0/1 occupations, CLB 5 for TEER 2/3 occupations
  • No formal education requirement — Canadian experience is the key factor
  • No proof of settlement funds needed (waived for CEC applicants)
  • Can include full-time hours or equivalent part-time (30 hrs/week)
  • Work experience must be in a TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3 skilled occupation
Processing: 6 months Fee: CAD 1,365

Federal Skilled Trades

FST Program

The Federal Skilled Trades program targets qualified tradespeople such as electricians, plumbers, welders, heavy equipment operators, carpenters, and other skilled trade workers. This pathway has lower language requirements compared to FSW and CEC, making it ideal for hands-on professionals. Applicants need either a valid Canadian job offer of at least one year or a certificate of qualification issued by a Canadian provincial or territorial authority. Canada has a strong and growing demand for skilled tradespeople, particularly in construction, manufacturing, and natural resources sectors.

  • Minimum 2 years of full-time work experience in an eligible skilled trade
  • CLB 5 for speaking and listening; CLB 4 for reading and writing
  • Must have a valid job offer (1+ year) or a Canadian certificate of qualification
  • Must meet all employment requirements for the specific trade occupation
  • No formal education requirement — trade experience is the primary factor
  • Eligible trades fall under NOC major groups 72, 73, 82, 83, 92, and 93
Processing: 6 months Fee: CAD 1,365

Ways to Improve Your CRS

1

Improve Language Scores

Language proficiency is the single largest factor in your CRS score. Achieving CLB 9+ in IELTS, CELPIP, or TEF/TCF can add up to 136 points. Even a one-band improvement in a weaker skill (e.g., writing) can result in a significant score boost. Consider retaking your test after focused preparation to maximise this opportunity.

2

Get Provincial Nomination

A Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) nomination adds 600 CRS points to your Express Entry profile — nearly guaranteeing an Invitation to Apply in the next draw. Each province has unique streams targeting specific occupations, international graduates, or candidates with connections to the province. Research provinces like Ontario (OINP), British Columbia (BC PNP), Alberta (AINP), and Saskatchewan (SINP) for the best fit.

3

Gain Canadian Experience

Canadian work experience earns direct CRS points (up to 80 for 3+ years) and also unlocks valuable skill transferability bonuses when combined with strong language scores or education. Studying in Canada on a study permit followed by a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) is one of the most effective ways to build Canadian experience and transition to permanent residency through the CEC or FSW program.

4

Get a Job Offer

A valid job offer supported by a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) can add 50 points for most NOC TEER 0/1/2/3 occupations, or 200 points for senior executive-level positions (NOC 00). Our team can help connect you with Canadian employers and guide you through the LMIA-exempt and LMIA-supported employment pathways to strengthen your Express Entry profile.
